On July 11 we were married…
and we decided to merge all of our things into a single wide trailer on the eastern edge of LA. The trailer park where we live is one of the last bastions of mobile history, a memorial to the bygone years of route 66 and hippie living. We came to the single wide as an attempt to purge our life of stuff, to live more simply and to grow closer together. The single wide has done exactly that for us, it forces us to rid ourselves of inessentials, it reminds us that there is more to life than stuff, and we’ve definitely been closer, both in proximity and heart, than ever before.
We live in a single wide trailer in a double wide world. A world which tells us our value is based on square footage, a world which entreats us to buy, to spend, to consume. The most revolutionary thing we do may be saying no to this consumer culture, to instead choose the simple life without all the trimmings and space and to enjoy the simplicity of each other. We are two, but we are for one purpose, one destiny, and one life.
What a beautiful statement of your little 2-person revolution. Right on!
